REVIEW: Liyah - 'Do You'

Hailing from South London, contemporary R&B artist Liyah returns with her third release of the year, as she debuts her brand new single ‘Do You’. The next step in her artistic journey, Liyah once more showcases her eclectic and unique artistry, as she delivers a captivating R&B sound that infuses elements of pop and soul.

Dripping in soul and emotion, the song begins with a rhythmic instrumental; driven along by a soft percussive beat. With a delicate and stripped back melody, Liyah’s vocals are at the forefront of the sonic landscape, wrapped in light and airy synths. Saturated with layers of raw emotion and stunning balladry, the intense passion and energy of the track hooks you completely, and draws you into the sonic landscape of the song.

Talking about the inspiration behind the track, Liyah explains; “Do You is about letting go of a relationship that is unfixable.”

Surrounded by music from a young age, Liyah’s passion for music was nurtured and honed by her late uncle Earl Lindo ‘Wya’ - an original member of Bob Marley and the Wailers - who taught her the fundamentals of songwriting, as well as the piano and guitar. Pursuing a career in the industry, she went on to study music at The BRIT school; and is now placing her fresh take on a classic R&B sound as she embarks upon her musical career.
