NYC based duo Nxtime are back with their bittersweet release “A Boy Named Johnny Gates” - a slice of glittering indie-pop.

Filled with warped guitar melodies and sparks of electronic rhythms, “A Boy Named Johnny Gates” reflects on the end of a romantic relationship. Ray’s vocals are confident and assertive as he navigates a life post-break up, searching for assurance amongst the uncertainty.

“The song has a dual meaning. On one hand it's about leaving a bad relationship, and on the other it's about leaving your ego behind. I gave my ego the fictional name of Johnny Gates”, Ray explains.

Comprised of singer-songwriter and producer Ray Rubio and guitarist Nate Thompson, the pair's music is filled with shimmering 80s rhythms and bombastic indie rock. "A Boy Named Johnny Gates" is no exception - a toe tapping anthem.
