Rising rockers DYGL present an upbeat, dreamy anthem for a new era in "Crawl"

Tokyo’s own dreamy rockers DYGL (pronounced ‘day-glo’) are back with a bang, dropping their latest single “Crawl”. It is a tantalising teaser for their upcoming EP, Cut the Collar, set to drop later this year. And if this track is any indication, DYGL is gearing up to deliver a collection that will hit all the right notes for alt-rock lovers everywhere.

Since forming in 2012, DYGL has been making waves with their infectious blend of jangle pop and post-punk. Made up of Nobuki Akiyama (vocals/guitar), Kohei Kamoto (drums), Yotaro Kachi (bass), and Yosuke Shimonaka (guitar), this Tokyo four-piece has crafted a sound that is both nostalgic and refreshingly modern.

“Crawl” is a heady mix of bright, jangly guitars and a rhythm section that demands you move. Akiyama's vocals channel the indie icons of the '90s and early 2000s, delivering each line with a raw, unfiltered emotion that feels like a warm, familiar hug from the past. There’s a palpable sense of freedom and frustration intertwined in the track, capturing the band’s desire to break out of the ordinary and push beyond their limits. The song builds and swells before transitioning into a lush, half-time outro that feels like a dreamy exhale, leaving you wanting to hit replay the moment it ends.

“We wanted to create something that makes people move, something they can feel physically rather than just hear. After coming back to live music post-COVID, we felt a renewed sense of purpose and inspiration. ‘Crawl’ embodies that feeling of being stuck but having the drive to break free and find something new.”

“Crawl” feels like a fresh chapter for DYGL—a track that’s both an ode to the past and a nod to the future. As they prepare to drop Cut the Collar, there’s no doubt that this dynamic quartet is ready to take the indie world by storm, one shimmering guitar riff at a time.
