Riva Taylor Presents A Jazz-Kissed Ode to Love and Loss in ‘Valentine Road’

jimt

British singer-songwriter Riva Taylor returns with Valentine Road, a soul-stirring new single set for release on February 7th—just in time for the season of love. More than just a romantic ballad, the track cleverly transforms the name of a real street in Hackney, E9, into a poignant metaphor for the winding, unpredictable nature of relationships.

Crafted in collaboration with British funk/gospel artist Marcus Foster (aka Seramic) and mixed by Richard Wilkinson (Adele, Amy Winehouse), Valentine Road is a seamless fusion of jazz-inflected nostalgia and modern pop sensibilities. The track’s rich instrumentation—layered with smoky brass, elegant piano progressions, and Taylor’s emotive vocal delivery—evokes the golden era of songwriting while remaining distinctly contemporary.

Having signed to EMI at just 12 years old, Taylor has spent her career carving a unique path through the industry, gracing prestigious stages from the BAFTAs to royal engagements. Even R&B legend Usher has praised her vocal prowess. This new release follows a whirlwind year that saw her perform across Latin America, including a standout TV appearance on Sale el Sol and a sold-out festival performance at Foro Indy Rocks. Her previous single Cubano climbed into the top 20, earning widespread support from BBC Radio 1 and 2, as well as a nod from Sir Elton John on his Apple Music show.

Sonically, Valentine Road taps into Taylor’s deep-seated jazz influences while echoing the timeless craftsmanship of legends like Joni Mitchell and The Beatles. It’s a song that lingers—haunted by longing yet filled with warmth, effortlessly bridging past and present. With this release serving as a first glimpse into her upcoming EP, set for June, Taylor continues to push creative boundaries, intertwining theatrical storytelling with contemporary production.

If Valentine Road is any indication of what’s to come, Riva Taylor’s next chapter will be one worth following.
