Championing the next generation of artists across Scotland, having previously featured the likes of Rhianne Downey and ILI, Riverside Music TV unveils its latest instalment featuring indie hero Kyle Falconer. Performing two tracks from his latest solo album, The View star takes a retrospective look at his career and where he is today.
The first track to be featured is the sticky ‘Stress Ball’, released in 2021. Forging a powerful dynamic backbone, the single stands its ground as an alluring offering that tells tales of optimism and unity, all wrapped up in a silky three-minute pop hit. Speaking about the track, Falconer explains, “I was out in LA for a month, just after the birth of my second daughter, Winnie. I felt about leaving, but I was thinking ‘I'll be your stress ball’ and that's what the song is about, I wanted them to take their fears out on me”
As well as showcasing ‘Laura’, a love song written about his final rehab session and named after his then-girlfriend-now-wife, Kyle discusses the musical adaptation of his new album, telling the story of his relationship and the emotional highs and lows: “It’s about two characters who are meant to be me and Laura”, Kyle adds. “We tried to read it out as ‘Kyle’ and ‘Laura’, but it was too close to the bone. I remember having to leave the room, we had to tone it down as it was just too heavy. You have to see it. It’s probably one of the proudest things I've ever done.”
