S.F. Johnson gives us idyllic new single ‘Strangers’

S.F. Johnson started his solo career through a move to Tokyo in 2018. This led to his debut EP, ‘Songs from an Empty Orchestra’. Johnson describes his sound as ‘Motel Pop’, telling stories of the city, future blues, friendship, and coping with change. Now back in the UK, S.F. Johnson is headed into a new era for his music, looking ahead to his forthcoming LP ‘Digital Utopia’ which is highly anticipated by both fans and publications.

With another hazy and effortlessly enticing single, S.F. Johnson has released ‘All Night’. Continuing to build into his signature sound, Johnson shows of beautiful sound scapes of fuzzy electric guitar, driving bass and punchy, tight drums. This is topped with thoughtful lyricism that portrays escaping the mundane day to day, discovering a new world that is within your reach. The track even includes an energetic guitar solo, which fits in perfectly with this more rock-influenced offering. The finished article is as polished as it is gritty, Johnson’s songwriting talent shining through the crowd once again.

He shares, “’All Night’ portrays the life of a fed-up, beatdown office worker ‘Tim’ - who looks to escape the mundane trappings of everyday life through a VR platform called 'Digital Utopia' that he discovers while procrastinating at work. The vision for the video came from director Bo Morgan and myself after evenings chatting about the meaning of the song. We wanted to bring another layer to it, and decided to play around with the idea of an alternate digital reality. More and more we are looking for an escape from our lives in some way through the digital world - in social media, video gaming, and content creation. We can curate exactly who we want to be, but it’s not real, and I’ve always found that interesting.”
