SAL has just released her new single ‘Kerosene’. Creating an atmosphere of music in the wind, gentle synth pads and soft acoustic guitars underly her vocal performance, which in itself perfectly balances wistful and angelic. Slowly, the instruments gather more energy, with keys and electric guitar additions expanding the soundscape. Percussion is next to be included, as we reach the next section, with synths and celestial vocal harmonies joining the fray. More melodies feed into the beauty until we reach our climax, before we slowly lose the instruments we’ve built, leaving us with the solitary synth hum we began with.
The artist explains, “I wrote ‘Kerosene’ at a time of confusion. I'm 28, and I'm at the stage where a lot of people around me are either settling down, moving to Australia, saving for a house or getting engaged and I'm doing none of those things. I'm out here touring, writing music and doing what I love and adore. When I wrote this song though, I felt like I was doing something wrong to not be doing what everyone else is doing. I felt like I wanted those things. But it's only from writing this song that I realised it's not where I'm at in this moment and that is okay.
I wrote this song for anyone who is feeling the same thing as me right now, who feels like they are doing life "wrong". I want you to know that you're doing great, and that although your 20s are transitional, and everyone is at different stages, there is no such thing as a right or wrong way. Even though it feels overwhelming to not follow the conventional way of life sometimes, you have to trust your own intuition, even when your intuition is confused.”
