First rising to fame for her No.1 single ‘I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker’ over sixteen years ago, Sandi Thom is back with a single that shows her maturity as an artist, and an interesting new direction. After curating one of the first live-streamed concert events in 2005, Sandi Thom continued to grow her audience, releasing multiple projects and moving to LA. In 2016, Sandi moved away from music to spend more time with family and do more voluntary work.
Now firmly back in the UK, Sandi’s new track ‘Silence’ speaks to the state of the world, and is taken from the upcoming EP ‘Warpaint’. In the song, the artist creates a warm and haunting atmosphere, layering her vocals and blurring the lines between the electronic and the natural. Drenched in reverb and atmosphere, the music rises into an angelic new space, as more vocals join the gorgeous choir. Emotional lyricism aside, you can feel the poignance wash over you as the track progresses, growing in intensity and leaving a mark long after the final note.
Sandi explains the origins of the song, "'Silence’ is a song of Hope in desperation...a song of searching for answers within turbulence. It captures a moment in my darkest of times, within what seemed to be an endless ‘desert’ of despair...a time when pain seemed unbearable and my senses were numbed. Everything appeared to be a fog… a distant grey… a rust-like decay. So the song conveys the oscillation of emotions and questions…a way of making sense of my reality…my ‘silence’. And yet, through this silence there is an ever present light…like a magnet which pulls…a hope which releases from the pain. So the message is one of Hope, that even in the darkest of times, there is always a light. I feel the song is more poignant now than ever, given the conflict and suffering being experienced by so many people right now."
