Shannon Tehya is back with a new release, the heartbreaking tangle of ‘Stay’ arriving hot on the heels of her whimsical track ‘Dance With Someone New’. Where the previous single felt uplifting and playful, ‘Stay’ sees Shannon showcase her ability to convey deep and melancholic emotions. Alongside natural feeling folk arrangements, filled with electric guitar improvisations, Shannon performs with a rich sense of internal conflict.
Begging for the decision to leave not to be hers to make, unable to settle the fragility she feels, Shannon breaks down around the good times. Ripping audiences apart with her incredibly delicate and honest lyricism, the track builds and builds to a vast climax, ending simply, defeated and yearning.
Shannon explains, “My second single off of Tangled String, "Stay," expresses my feelings of yearning and unrequited love. The song equally evokes feelings of heartache and hopefulness, and I hope listeners will allow the gooey instrumentation to melt over them. I encourage you to sit back and listen with your eyes closed to the intricate harmonies and dramatic build of the song.”
Hailing from Cambridge, New York, Shannon grew up nurturing a talent in the arts, crafting, dancing and learning music throughout her early years. After losing a friend in her senior year, Shannon began to struggle with her mental health, something she echoes in her music.
Since the age of eighteen, Shannon has been working full-time as a dancer in a local strip club. Breaking down the stereotypes around women in that profession, Shannon proves that you can both work in that environment and bring positive change to the world.
