Acclaimed as the “Godfather of Powwow Step,” Shub (formerly known as DJ Shub) makes a triumphant return with ‘Victorious’, a bold new collaboration with Tia Wood. The first single from his upcoming two-part album 'Heritage', ‘Victorious’ serves as an electrifying testament to both artists’ ability to blend traditional Indigenous sounds with cutting-edge electronic production. Alongside the single, Shub also unveils a stunning music video, further amplifying the song’s powerful themes of self-discovery and cultural resilience.
Built on raw energy and instinctive trust, Shub and Tia Wood’s creative synergy shines throughout ‘Victorious.’ Tia’s soaring vocals weave through a masterfully crafted soundscape, where traditional Indigenous elements dance with ambient house textures, before erupting into an exhilarating drum & bass breakdown. The result is a song that feels deeply personal yet universally resonant, exploring themes of clarity, reflection, and the courage to let go.
“This one’s personal,” Shub reflects. “It’s about seeing things clearly for the first time—realizing what’s real, what’s not, and sitting with that. There’s a lot of emotion in it, and I think people will connect with that feeling of reflection and letting go.”
Accompanying the release is a cinematic, deeply symbolic music video, directed by Kit Weyman, shot by Daniyal Shah, and edited by Bryan Reuben. The video embodies a gritty yet magical realism aesthetic, portraying Shub as “The Drum,” providing the heartbeat and fire for people to gather around, while Tia Wood’s journey—from the Plains to downtown Toronto—mirrors the song’s emotional core.
“With this video, we set out to build bridges between cultures—and I think we’ve done that in a way that feels both elevated and grounded, rooted in tradition but forward-looking,” Weyman shares. Dynamic choreography features dancers representing different energies and spirits, moving to the rhythm of Shub’s signature powwow step production.
