After five years away from releasing music, Small Leaks Sink Ships re-emerged, sending fans into anticipation with the singles ‘AEIOU’, ‘Floating’ and an electrifying cover of Cyndi Lauper’s ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’. This was all leading to their now-released fifth album ‘Low Tide’. Their evolving and frenzied allows them to stray away from a signature structure, instead opting to constantly experiment with new atmospheres in each song. Through all this, the band still provide thoughtful energy and earworm melodies, whether that be shrouded in gritty instrumentation or twinkly soundscapes.
The band explain, “This album is a long time in the making and has gone through many variations over the last five years. It took us a plethora of life obstacles in order to put everything we had into it and for it to become something we are truly proud of. Pulling from some of the harder and more vulnerable aspects of our lives, we realized that it was what was necessary for us to produce a record like ‘Low Tide’ and give it the love and attention it needed to be truly complete.”
Forming in the late 2000s, Small Leaks Sink Ships has powered through lineup changes and artistic transformation to solidify a reputation for a sound that is constantly building into new eras. They’ve become renowned for live shows, noted by a range of tastemakers, all taking a liking to their lyrics of introspection and the complexity of life.
