Leicester-hailing indie four-piece Sorrell are made up of Dylan Lee on vocals and guitar, Sebastian Zamfirescu also on guitar, Noel Walker-O’Dowd on bass and Robin Smith on drums. They’ve built up a reputation in their home city for creativity in writing and energy when performing live. The band saw success with BBC Introducing with their debut EP ‘Wait For Bliss’, have performed at Leicester’s Handmade Festival and have headlined shows across the UK.
Sorrell’s latest release, ‘Good News’, uses spacey guitar leads to set the scene for a gritty yet hopeful attitude that is persistent throughout the track. Rocketing drums, driving bass and aggressive chords help to build up the textures, whilst the vocal line glides over the top with a melancholic twang that makes this an irresistible indie rock anthem. The wistfulness of the performance balances with the opposing up-beat and dynamic instrumentation for a polished track you won’t be able to resist.
Vocalist Dylan Lee shares, "Good News is the song that we've always been trying to make. It has moments of odd time-signatures and off-kilter guitar lines dotted throughout, but at its core it's still a direct, heavy guitar-driven track. I wrote the song when we were really challenging ourselves with our songwriting process. It's a song about trying to push yourself to overcome past mistakes, and the pitfalls and traps along the way to achieving that.”
