Continuing to tease their new EP I Know The World Stopped, But Why Did You, The Publics have played host to a string of raw rock singles, from drenching soundscapes in distortion on 'Red Flag Verified' to revealing dynamic drums and soaring vocals in 'Gaslighter'. Their latest addition to the roster is 'D. B. Cooper’ brings all previous elements together in a track that rides the line between unapologetic grit and infectious anthem potential.
The intro section shows off the screaming electric guitar tones, before diving into their storytelling with the lead vocals. The verse settles down, building tension with tom heavy drum rhythms and muted riffs. Effortlessly, the band use this pressure to explode into a fast-paced chorus, each element just about keeping up with the runaway train of melodic layers and rhythmic punch.
It's after that we reach the true 'let loose' moment, every band member charging into a riff-fueled realm. You can hear the cheeky exchange of looks the band gives one another as they lower the volume one last time, before firing into the final chorus without looking back.
“Based on one of the FBI's greatest unsolved mysteries, D. B. Cooper recounts how one manager stole from multiple bands before they collapsed and were forced to disband,” the band shares. “The song aims to stand out at our festival performances with a huge breakdown section and chanty backing vocals encouraging an energetic response from large crowds. The track's ominous bass riff is complimented by sci-fi esc guitar licks to create a mysterious atmosphere whilst remaining bouncy and exciting to capture the attention of first time listeners.”
Based in Mansfield, close to the vibrant musical scene of Nottingham where the band have sold-out headline shows, The Publics, as a four-piece have created a powerhouse reputation. Their ambition to break through in 2024 has been backed by impressive new music and received praise from all who find them.
