The Sea At Midnight Unveil Climate-Inspired Single “The Midnight Sun”

Admin

Since their debut in 2020, The Sea At Midnight have had a string of successes with each and every release. Their latest single “The Midnight Sun” draws inspiration from the effects of climate change. Songwriter Vince Grant, based in Los Angeles, witnessed firsthand the negative effects of climate change after the fires in the city earlier this year, leading him to donate all Bandcamp earnings from the single to victims of the disaster.

An atmospheric prelude makes its way through the airwaves, shortly followed by an indie-driven drum beat that launches the track into action. Raspy vocals recount the detrimental effect climate change has on our environment and takes the listeners on an eye-opening sonic experience.

Speaking about the single, Vince Grant divulges, “I tried to capture the eerie and suffocating reality of living under skies choked by wildfire smoke - an increasingly common consequence of climate change. Thick, lingering smoke can obscure the sun for days or even weeks, turning daylight into an unsettling twilight. As a Los Angeles resident, I've experienced these conditions firsthand, witnessing how the relentless wildfires transform the atmosphere and daily life."
