The Youth Play are back with a new single entitled 'If We Just Ever Were', a track bursting with the life of post-punk, echoing the sensibilities of the genre with fierce, almost poetic delivery, but violent in the essence of their vocals.
Behind their ferocious frontman, The Youth Play hone and craft an energetic, guitar-driven atmosphere, the charging licks coming up against their screaming shoegaze equivalent. The drums and bass are non-stop, carrying the verses with fast-paced, disruptive power before the guitars are allowed to come crashing in once again.
TYP adds, “If We Just Ever Were is a song that was written alongside the tracks of the previous Wildflowers EP, the first ideas were thrown around in a moment where we felt we needed to write a fun, not so deep song that embraced the feeling of simplicity, with lyrics delving into the lack of excitement from everyday’s situations, the song aims to amplify the euphoria and catharsis that one gets from letting themselves free from socially built constructions, just focusing on enjoying the moment, as simple as it might be. The song was written in the context of a big city like London, where its energy and people can sometimes be overwhelming, making you feel captive of a cycle revolving around “making it” or being successful.”
Influenced by the dreaminess of Shoegaze alongside an electrifying and otherworldly songwriting tendency, London’s The Youth Play look at the passage of time, a lost love, and the deterioration of our natural world, all within a deeply resonating lens. After early success, they look towards refinement and a promising future.
