London-based indie collective Tugboat Captain have released their latest single 'Thank God', a heartfelt and expansive track taken from their upcoming album 'Dog Tale', which lands on April 25th.
A masterclass in the band’s signature polyphonic songwriting style, 'Thank God' begins with a delicate acoustic guitar motif and gradually blossoms into a rich, semi-orchestral arrangement, complete with choral backing vocals contributed by the band’s extended musical family. It’s a slow-burning piece of emotional catharsis that reaches deep into themes of identity, reflection, and connection.
“‘Thank God’ is the apex of the album lyrically and musically,” shares frontman Sox. “It feels like a song about my whole life—past, present, and future—all at once. When we recorded it, I didn’t know what shape it would take. I just knew I needed a certain number of verses before I went away and wrote the lyrics overnight. It was at the end of a very long and intense week of writing and recording the album, and I burst into tears after the last vocal take. It all feels very real.”
