Swedish singer-songwriter Vargen has made a name for himself both as a Bob Dylan interpreter and for his music set to poetry. In 2017 he debuted with ‘Sånger från natten, sånger från Dan’, a project featuring new music set to Swedish Author, Dan Andersson’s, darker poetry, with videos from the album gaining virality in Sweden.
Vargen then moved forward to Bob Dylan translations and covers in 2019’s ‘Bob Dylan På Svenska’ and 2020’s ‘Love / Leave’. Both of these received acclaim and acceptance from the Dylan community.
Recently, Vargen released a concert recording of his ‘Recordia Live’ performance. The video showcases Vargen and some of his exciting new original music, garnering hype for his self-titled album which followed. He laces his gritty, passionate and commanding delivery of original tracks with equally captivating covers of classic tracks by Mark Lanegan, Duke Garwood and Bob Dylan.
He shares, “I wanted to make a story-telling album based on characters, dreams and loves - both made-up and non-fictional. Our minds associate, connect and draw conclusions. It was when people, times, places – real or imagined – collide or combine that I found inspiration for many of the songs. I don’t really know how it happens. It might be a dream that lingers. It might be a memory or feeling that changes in an instant if put in a new light. Sometimes it’s just plain fiction.”
