Following the release of the critically acclaimed singles 'BREAK” and 'need 2 breathe', alt-soul innovator VC Pines is back with his most vulnerable and cathartic work yet—announcing the new EP 'Viole(n)t Colour', out later this year. The project is introduced with its lead single 'Made 2 Luv', a stunning collaboration with alt-pop talent Josie Man.
Written in the aftermath of emotional and creative burnout, 'Viole(n)t Colour' reflects the fragility of healing and the strength required to rebuild from the ground up. VC Pines—real name Jack Mercer—describes the EP as born from one of the most difficult periods of his life, following the independent release of his MRI album, two self-managed tours, and the dissolution of several key personal relationships.
“I spent most of last year recovering from a mental crash-landing after dropping the MRI album without a manager, without a label, running two tours and burning out,” Mercer shares. “A load of other sh*t happened when I came back and I just felt like I’d lost my creative outlet, closest relationships and reason for being here.”
He continues, “It took a minute but I got writing again and found a way to continue releasing music. This EP is a mix of songs I’ve been holding on to for a while, and songs that helped me get through the last 6-12 months. To me, Viole(n)t Colour feels small, with rough edges, like a pinecone in your pocket—though it has moments of huge self-realisation, and potential to grow into the biggest pine in the forest.”
