'We Are Meant To Break The Rules', the debut album from Samuel Evanson, opens with the bouncy 'She Was Blind', the glittered, chorused guitars setting a tone of positivity contrasted with the melancholic lyricism, the internal conflict showing its first signs. 'Devils Row' continues to follow this internal frustration to the surface, the raw performance showing the shards of emotion as the instrumentation creates a dreamlike surrounding.
This essence continues throughout the project, Samuel trying to contest with optimism and bitterness, falling in love, falling out of love and then falling in all over again. The indie-pop power is present from start to finish, inciting a rebellion in the listener whilst keeping a smile firmly on their face. Confident, and unstoppable, this project is a representation of Samuel himself, an exciting work.
"For some of the album I talk about the worst times of my life and for some, I talk about the best. Even looking back at the worst times it made me who I am and I wouldn't change a thing."
Lauded for his emotive themes and soaring voice, Samuel Evanson’s fresh brand of indie-pop is marked with plenty of industry support. After returning to music after experiencing the pandemic and a move to the television industry, Samuel is welcomed back into the open arms of the Liverpool scene.
